Setting up your own Website
There are many different ways you can setup a website
- You can set up a very small website for free at sites like geocities.
- If your ISP account includes web space, you can place your web pages in this space.
- Another alternative is to pay a fee to a company to host your website.
The web site needs to be written in hypertext markup language (html), which is the language used on the WWW. If you don't know how to write in html, you can learn or use Web publishing programs such as Macromedia Dreamweaver or Frontpage, which will create the html for you.
Another alternative is to pay a company to design, write and publish your website for you. This means you won't have to worry about any of the technical aspects of your website. You can still work with the company to ensure the content on your website is how you require it.
Many people will require a domain name for their web site. This is the address of the website that people will type into the web browser to reach your web site eg. www.vegecentral.com.
Another way to get a Domain is to purchase a web hosting plan from a company that may offer a free domain name with the service. You will need to have the website hosted somewhere and this can be purchase separately if you prefer.
You can earn an income from your website by placing advertising on your website. You can join an affiliate program. Affiliate programs have a large list of companies that allow members (on approval) to place their ads on websites.
